Cold DM Campaign Risk Checklist
Run every campaign through these four risk lenses before the first message goes out. A “no” on any profitability question is a stop sign; a “no” on compliance is a hard stop.
Profitability risk
- Is the campaign profitable at conservative (low-end) conversion rates?
- Does campaign cost include tools, list research, VA/SDR time, AND your hours?
- Do you know the break-even DM count — and is it inside your planned volume?
- Is forecasted ROI at least 3x, leaving room for reality to underperform?
Assumption risk
- Are your rates from history or benchmarks — not hope?
- Did you avoid picking the high end of every funnel stage at once?
- Does the forecast project at least a handful of clients, or is it a high-variance one-client bet?
- Have you built a conservative scenario alongside the base case?
Execution risk
- Is the daily sending pace sustainable for the whole campaign?
- Is your profile credible enough that a stranger would reply?
- Do you have time blocked to answer replies within hours, not days?
- Are kill criteria written down before launch?
Compliance risk
- Does the plan respect the platform's rules and messaging limits?
- Is every message personalized — no copy-paste blasts?
- Will you honor opt-outs, blocks, and 'no' immediately?
- Are you avoiding scraped lists, fake accounts, and automation that violates platform terms?
Why forecast instead of guess
Half of this checklist can be answered in sixty seconds by running your assumptions through the calculator: it computes break-even, profit at your rates, and a 0–100 risk score that flags stacked optimism automatically. The checklist catches what math can't; the forecast catches what optimism hides.
Frequently asked questions
How does the calculator's risk score relate to this checklist?
The risk score covers the quantitative half automatically: profitability, weak funnel stages, over-optimistic assumptions, and high-variance forecasts. This checklist adds the execution and compliance judgment calls that math can't score.
What risk level is acceptable to launch?
That's your call — but a campaign that fails the profitability section at conservative rates should be fixed before launch, not monitored after.
How often should I re-check risk?
Re-run the forecast with actual rates after the first few hundred DMs. Risk that was theoretical at planning becomes measurable fast.
